Questions Every Recruiter (and Employee) Should Ask

Take inventory of your current knowledge and skill as you answer the questions below. Then, read a sampling of answers that are specific to recruiters who support the special job of staffing. Some answers reveal practices within Dunson & Associates, a people resources company.

Trust, Loyalty, Opinion, Identity, Quality, Perception: BRAND
1. How well do I understand and communicate my company's brand?

Just as people have personalities — aggressive to meek, product-driven to service-oriented — so do businesses. Company/Organizational branding is a way to make known the personality of a business, and the unique philosophy, products, and services behind it.

Details for recruiters within the staffing industry: Professional recruiters should know (or ask management) about the nuances of their company brand, and perhaps take the opportunity to emphasize an individual personality trait that supports the brand. This could be part of a "welcome letter" when making the initial contact with an applicant. For example, recruiters might say in their first conversation or email to an applicant,

"...I'm glad to work with you. Working for Dunson & Associates, a people resources company, my personal commitment is to work as effectively as I can in partnering with you to match job resources. I'll begin by identifying unique people skills that are needed for a specific open position."
No exaggeration, pure honesty, and a standardized approach will work best. This communication is a quick, easy, and early way to emphasize the company brand with customers and clients.

2. How/Where does my employer specialize within the industry?

There are at least 68 types of industries doing business in the US and beyond. In what industry do you work? If your organization has the distinction of being experts and specialists in a particular industry, then you should know about it and wisely communicate it. There is most likely a good reputation that goes with expertise. Your company's reputation is important information to research, recognize and communicate directly to clients/customers.

Details for recruiters within the staffing industry: Through good communication, effective research, and other established means, recruiters aim to fill new positions and retain candidate pools. Knowing or inquiring about the specialization, reputation, and good statistics surrounding the company can help recruiters at Dunson & Associates to feel more confident and competent in getting the job done right. The best recruiters protect the reputation of the company while building their credibility so that job candidates will trust the recruiters to dive into the candidate's background, reputation, and experience. This is particularly true in healthcare staffing where Dunson & Associates recruiters specialize. If a healthcare candidate is deemed as having a negative reputation, then customers and healthcare recruiters back away from any partnerships.

3. What can I do day-to-day to assure a good impact on the company's success tomorrow and the next day?

The answer is "manage." With every employee being a manager of their own job, this involves the four mainstays of management — planning, organizing, directing, and controlling. Managing the daily job means managing the self. One simple way that personal management assures growth and success is through avoidance of pitfalls such as being out of tune with company strategy and deadlines or allowing proprietary information to fall into the wrong hands. Those are costly mistakes that can bring down an entire company. Biologists say that an organism is either growing or dying; the same can be said for organizations.

Details for recruiters within the staffing industry: Recruiters face numbers to obtain — a minimum number of phone calls to place daily, the number of referrals to make weekly, the percentage of successful placements needed, and more. Dunson & Associate recruiters create an impact that is achieved through approaching the job with a marching plan toward goal completion today and tomorrow, organizing their workspace and files — digital and hard copy, following up or orchestrating others to keep pace with the tempo, and controlling resources. Dunson's success is supported through the help of the Microsoft Teams network for communicating, e-filing, and scheduling. Our Microsoft Teams network hub aids good personal management, which leads to team growth, which leads to company growth.

In summary, inside knowledge about a company comes from asking the right questions. A few of those questions have been addressed above. The answers can lead to a deeper understanding of business partnerships and a greater impact on company success — especially in the staffing industry.
