Check Your Knowledge Management IQ

iq Information can represent up to 50% of an organization's value in our data-driven culture. The need for sharing data electronically increased 49% during COVID-19. Are you sitting on top of data and other information in old paper files, and still can't find what you're looking for to provide the services your customer needs? Have you been researching, developing, updating, and/or filing important information for your company or team, only to have trouble finding or sharing it for the Zoom meeting?

Many of us have experienced these problems. They represent knowledge management (KM) challenges. If you experience any of the challenges above or below, then complete the KM IQ quiz to assess whether a free KM consultation is for you or your team.

These scenarios could be yours:

  • Barbara is challenged to quickly find a file and other up-to-date information on plans to present right now in an impromptu meeting with her teammate.
  • Mike does an unsuccessful file search on his computer for the recent HR policies related to his request for time off supported by FMLA. "Is it in my email?" he asks himself.
  • Allie is new to her marketing job. The person who previously held the position had a unfortunate, fatal car accident. No one can unlock the e-documents on the previous employee's personal laptop needed to roll out the current marketing campaign and customer files.

Chances are that you have been in similar situations, where an outdated or individual filing system was being used to track important company policies, documents, strategic objectives, or organizational decisions that you need to access. Outdated filing systems fall short. Companies like Dunson & Associates are using organization-wide KM systems to solve problems of information creation and storage that affect team effectiveness or efficiency in meeting strategic objectives. Check how much you know about basic knowledge management systems.

Score Interpretation

After adding all your scores, use the following guide for score interpretation:

10-20 points: Inexperienced. You have very little awareness of organizational KM systems. If teammates are also at this level, then a free consultation or basic training from Dunson & Associates could help to prepare you for implementing a company-wide (or targeted team) system.

20-40 points: Moderate experience. You understand and can demonstrate use of basic components in a KM system. Consultation from Dunson & Associates can help to assess and improve employee compliance with an organization-wide KM system.

40-50 points: Above average experience. You have used and can support more novice employees or teammates in the proper use of a KM system. Dunson & Associates can provide a free consultation and templates that help to assure 100% compliance company-wide.

While this was not a scientific test, your individual scores and team averages could suggest your organization's readiness to implement or enhance a company-wide knowledge management system.
